About Kari

Tucked between the mountains of Smithfield, Utah, Kari lives every day with her head in the clouds, her imaginings whimsical, humorous, and sometimes a bit off-the-wall. Throw in a splash of romance and the makings of an extraordinary story take shape, begging to be committed to the hard drive and eventually paper. Kari's dreams and daydreams are the product of the love, support, and encouragement of her beloved husband. Her four kids are pretty darn amazing too! And don't forget the family dog!

About Me

  • Music is all I ever wanted to do, BUT I loved reading historical romance. Victoria Holt: need I say more?
  • When my family moved to Colorado, many music-based opportunities fell into my lap.
  • Received my BA in Music Education in 1999.
  • Balancing family life with my love for music, I began teaching piano lessons in the early 2000s.
  • Decided to write a book in 1999 just to see if I could do it.
  • Kept writing and learning about writing for fun. Some people relax by watching TV or reading when their kids go to bed… I wrote stories.
  • Have self published and had works traditionally published in the past. Both good experiences. Back to self-publishing.
  • Moved to the northern-most part of Utah in 2019. It's heaven!
  • Continue to teach piano lessons. Love the sweet children I work with. I thrive on their successes! My studio is 30 students strong. So blessed!
  • Self-published NEVER ALONE November of 2022. Five more books to come.
  • My books exhibit the craft of proper romance but are immersed in beaker-exploding chemistry, offering the swoon that is sometimes underestimated.
  • Excited to engage with readers, authors, and editors in and out of my community.

My Favorite Authors

Victoria Holt

Victoria Holt

Touted as the "Queen of Romantic Suspense," Victoria Holt opened my eyes to the world of sweet romance, sprinkled with a touch of spice, her stories steeped in delectable history and unparalleled mystery. My mom introduced me to this phenomenal author at the impressionable age of fifteen, an age when my story was still very much unwritten, and the hope for adventure and romantic interludes often carried away my imagination. Unfortunately, high school boys were very disappointing. Not one hot boy called me darling, not one materialized in a misty wood while exploring the mountains of Colorado with my family. Ms. Holt set high expectations, her heroines teaching resilience, pluck, and courage to seek the adventure in any given situation.

Favorite novels by Victoria Holt: On the Night of the Seventh Moon, The Captive, Secret for a Nightingale.

Mary E. Pearson

Mary E. Pearson

Invested in the roles of wife, mother, piano teacher, and author, I have difficulty sticking with a book that doesn't grab me from the moment I pick it up. It is rare for me to binge a book series . . . ever. The Remnant Chronicles . . . ? Yeah, total binge fest! Runaway princess-bride who can handle a sword AND has a brain, two tempting male interests, a fantastic plot, and excellent writing. Every paragraph of any of Ms. Pearson's novels showcases a canvas of bold color and delicate strokes, a rich feast of worded imagery.

Favorite novels by Mary E. Pearson: The Remnant Chronicles: The Kiss of Deception, The Heart of Betrayal, The Beauty of Darkness, Dance of Thieves: Dance of Thieves, Vow of Thieves.

Jonathan Stroud

Jonathan Stroud

The novel Lockwood and Co was a random school bookfair buy and WOW!!!—what a jewel. My daughters loved it so much, we bought every book in the series. Distinct in voice and humor, Mr. Stroud's writing enhances the already thrilling storylines created from beautiful imagination and panache.

Favorite novels by Johnathan Stroud: Lockwood and Co: The Screaming Staircase, The Whispering Skull, The Hollow Boy, The Creeping Shadow, The Empty Grave.
